Summer is over, so are the vacations, and everyday life is colourful as usual, but also unexpectedly cold, rainy and grey. It’s not so easy to get back into a pleasant everyday routine. Part of me always wants to be on holiday, preferably always in Brittany by the sea. But I have been told time and time again that this just isn’t possible, so I try to get back into the daily routine. Again.
When the everyday grey becomes too overwhelming,
then we use colour as a counterspell. Colourful or aesthetically pleasing work materials, enchanting screen backgrounds, good bright lamps, a varied colourful diet and enough vitamin D are definitely a good idea. But what if that’s not enough? Well, I personally continue to steer in the desired direction with colourful hair and clothes. If that’s not your thing and you prefer to quietly experience colour explosions just for yourself, I have another tip:
then redecorate your inner sanctuary!
Do you know your inner safe place? Here you can read a guided imagination from me (one of five imaginations in my blog). Then you will know roughly what I mean: a safe place in your imagination that has everything you need to feel comfortable. The lighting is just the way you like it, the shape of the room just feels right. The ceiling, walls and floor are the perfect colour and the right material. The furniture is also perfect: there are comfortable seats and places to sleep, storage options for all your favourite things and definitely enough space for all your favourite activities.
In short: your favourite place, just a thought away from the here and now.
If this idea is new to you, then I hope you enjoy setting it up. However, if you have already discovered your inner sanctuary on a fantasy journey or in a meditation in the past, then this is an invitation to renovate it!
Does it still match your current preferences? Are you missing areas such as a dance floor with a disco ball and jukebox or a dojo or a wonderful fireplace or a hall of mirrors or a lake or a fire pit outside…? Look around and add what you are missing, change what is not perfect.
Dare to do anything, because you are completely free in your design.
Your walls can be covered in fabric, gilded or made of beautiful wood or exposed concrete. The floor could be covered in moss, acrylic or award-winning carpets, it’s up to you. Maybe it’s a grotto, a castle at the bottom of the sea or a sacred grove. It’s all about your wellbeing and your wishes, nobody else has anything to say here. There is no budget and no dirt, no exhaustion and no rules. You can dance as long as you like, you won’t get tired. Junk food or caviar, gin or spring water, ukulele or grand piano, Franz Liszt, Sia, B52’s, David Guetta or Schandmaul, space travel or rainforest…
Everything in this inner sanctuary is your choice.
Whether you sink into silken cushions, ride a dragon or overlook your vast lands from your throne. Here you can paint like the great masters, drive motor races, float in a zero grav bed, play chess like a goddess or whatever you fancy… Whatever you imagine. Nobody can see or disturb you here. There are absofrigginlutely no restrictions or limits here!
But the most important thing is that you find your way here, again and again.
It’s not about just visualising the perfect place once in your mind’s eye. It’s about inhabiting this place, letting your thoughts wander here in the evening when you’re falling asleep or waiting in a queue and making the place your own. And to revise, renovate and renew it from time to time. Here we can free ourselves from any ballast with impunity and at the same time pursue every crazy new idea.
And this place is also available to us when – and especially when – we are not feeling well.
I really hope that I remember this the next time I go to the dentist. I’ve already made up my mind to introduce the dance floor and the disco ball. Thanks to Dzenita for the inspiration. And also, to take a trip into space again, I haven’t been there for far too long…
I wish you lots of fun and, as always, I’ll be waiting for you in the back garden by the campfire, where you can tell me how you’ve organised or rearranged your inner sanctuary. I’m looking forward to it!
Heartfelt, wherever you are,
