Summer is here, a double-edged affair…. On the one hand, beautiful weather that lures us outdoors, on the other hand, too much heat and loads of pollen in the air. Summer heat instead of summer retreat. This is always a tough time for me. I do not tolerate heat well and am very allergic to grasses, rye, and many other things.
So, what may be nice weather for you means physical discomfort for me.
Many people sleep very badly in the summer. The sometimes-dramatic weather takes its toll, so it is not surprising that we long for a break. For me, the moment has come to retreat and make self-care my priority.
That means a few weeks without a blog, without coaching sessions, without calls, without newsletters – without appointments!
What a wonderful thought! Sleep when I am tired, eat when I am hungry, read, spend time with my loved one, cuddle the cats and maybe even go away for a few days. A little less heteronomy and more mindfulness and freedom, that sounds very tempting and will certainly do my health a lot of good.
When I read old books or see the sentence in biographies: „The ABC family spent their summers at the summer retreat in XYZ“, a great longing flares up in me.
How I would love to spend my worst pollen-laden months completely by the sea! Many doctors have given me this advice over the years. But it is not that easy, because no human is an island, I am no exception to that. Even the most introverted among us have some significant others, and if they can not all come along on the summer retreat… then unfortunately it is not going to happen!
Then we are left with a few stolen days or weeks, lowered shutters, fans running continuously, sleepless nights and lots of ice cream sundaes.
While it may not be perfect, this is a lot better than perpetual November, Isn`t it?
See you in August, my darlings, probably… I would like to leave it a little open mentally… indulge in the enchanting illusion of several more months of summer retreat…. Until then, I wish you many hours of summer enjoyment, whatever that may be for you, and your days garnished with refreshing moments.
Sincerely, wherever you are,
PS: I would love to read about your favourite summer self-care…!
